| Customer Reviews: Wonderful Speakers January 7, 2010 james_98188 (Seattle, WA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been upgrading the factory "premium" stereo system in my 1993 Toyota MR2 Turbo, and available space is quite limited. These speakers did the trick - and I got them from Amazon for about HALF the price of a well-known, way overpriced car stereo equipment retailer.
Pricey, but sound excellent, crossovers are HUGE! July 11, 2010 B. Rodgers (Officially Undisclosed) The sound quality of these is phenomenal. In fact, it's so good that my 128k encoded MP3s sound a lot worse to me now, since I can hear the audio artifacts of compression more clearly. The 320k encoded ones, CDs, radio, DVDs and everything else however, sound fantastic.
Keep in mind when installing these, is that those crossovers in the picture are really that big, so make sure you have somewhere to mount them. There are a total of four separate crossovers, which are normally paired up together (as in the picture) which can be split up to make them easier to fit.
It's important to read the instructions, as some of the jumper settings inside the crossovers have to be changed if you're going to mount the tweeter separate from the speaker.
These come with a large assortment of mounting plates, insulating foam rings, and other hardware to ease just about any installation.
Here's where they've lost a star for me - the tiny little hex-drive screws. I wish they would have included regular phillips-drive screws or hex nuts, as the hex drive on them is so small that even through I pre-drilled the holes in the MDF spacers, they ended up stripping the inside of the hex drive slot in the screws. Using the same MDF spacers and same size drill bit to make the holes, the phillips-drive screws included in BA's lower-class SC65's didn't come close to stripping out even once. This made mounting the adapter ring quite frustrating, and since the mounting ring is never seen in an installation anyway, Boston Acoustic's choice of these screws for aesthetic purposes is poor. Maybe they figured it would be an anti-theft feature, being hard to put on and take off? I can't say, but I can say this - just use regular screws to mount the ring. Their hex-drive bolts that mount the speaker to the ring worked fine though, so you can use them there and still feel somewhat safe from theft.
